The Quotable

on good days

i collect my own

turn over
unimportant things

and scrub the essential
quiet into my hands

i can hold my breath
against the stench of

so much undeserved

this face hides
the rest of my head

when i can’t say more
expected words

when i refuse
to apologize

birds speak to me
i mean it
